Description
Sumatriptan 100 is a medicine useful to treat migraines. The active ingredient in the medicine is Sumatriptan Succinate. It helps in getting relief from acute migraine attacks with or without an aura prior to the migraine headaches. The medicine is available in the tablet form, intro-nasal spray. It is also available as a substitute for Aeneas injection. Migraines aetiology is very different why it happens. It is genetic for some people, something traumatic that happened in your life or due to vision problem too. There are other factors also which cause migraine pain, headache such as – food, caffeine, environmental factors etc. It’s the inflammation of the brain that causes a headache. The blood vessel dilates too much and that’s what causes the migraine pain. So, the medicine reduces inflammation and helps to constrict the blood vessels. It belongs to a class of medication known as Triptans.
USAGE
Sumatriptan 100 is not indicated in hemiplegia, basilar or ophthalmoplegic migraine or in atypical headaches. It is taken orally with or without fasting. It is effective as an intranasal spray too. The dose of the medicine depends upon how you are taking the medicine. Do not use more than two sprays in a 24 hour period in adults and a single spray in adolescents.
DOSAGE
Take the dose of the medicine as prescribed by your doctor or according to your response to the treatment. Decrease the frequency of use as much as possible, only use it when you actually know that you are having a migraine. Do not stop or start the dose without doctor’s advise. Side effects are dose-dependent.
PRECAUTIONS
Do not use this medicine in children under the age of 12 or elders over the age of 65. If you have any history, symptoms or signs of cardiac ischemic diseases, inform your doctor. Avoid the use of medicine in individuals who are taking MAO inhibitors and have severe hepatic impairment. Do not drive a motor vehicle or do anything that requires concentration.
